And don’t forget that the Wii is backwards compatible with GameCube so you can play MK2 on the Wii using the GameCube version of Midway Arcade Treasures 2! Meanwhile you can also find the game for the PSP as part of the “ Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play” compilation which also features near arcade-perfect versions of MK1 and MK3!Īlternatively to finding the game online via the MAME emulator (which would be the easiest way to play the arcade version) you can also find the game for the PS2 and Xbox1 as an unlockable in Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, last generations co-op 2005 beat-em up action adventure. You can also get the game on the Xbox1, PS2 or GameCube as part of the Midway Arcade Treasures 2 compilation, which features the game in virtually arcade-perfect form. The best and easiest way to play MK2 is to download it via the PlayStation Network for PS3, as the PSN Mortal Kombat 2 version is the only version that features full online play! Both versions also feature unique and exclusive cheat options, including Raiden (or “Rayden” as he is named in MK2) being able to perform a “Fergality” finisher exclusive to the SNES version. The Super NES version of Mortal Kombat 2 is closer to the arcade but features subdued music (but full blood & gore unlike the SNES MK1) while the Genesis version of Mortal Kombat 2 is missing several sound effects and audio samples (including announcement of character names and even the word “Fatality”) but it features more colorful, cartoony graphics than other ports that make it interesting and unique. Of the popular SNES and Genesis versions, both have differing music than the original arcade game. Obviously the disc based versions feature annoying loading times, but are more graphically and generally audibly closer to the original arcade version than the 16-bit versions. MK2 has been released on many systems including the Amiga, Game Boy, Game Gear, PC, PS1, PS3 (via PlayStation Network), Master System, Genesis, Sega 32X, Saturn, Super NES, PSP and Arcade. Additionally MK2 added several “Pit” stages for different Stage Fatalities and added two new Finishers called “Friendships” and “Babalities”, while also adding two Fatality finishers per character. ![]()
